Taekwondo is a Korean martial art which has been under constant evolution for thousands of years. Literally, Taekwondo (TKD) means “the art of kicking and punching”.

    Tae means “punch”

    Kwon means “kick”

    Do means “the art of”

TKD emphasizes punching and kicking techniques, consumed with thorough physical training abilities of speed, flexibility, balance and power. TKD as with all martial arts involves concentration, self-control and self-discipline.

TKD is the largest practiced marital arts in the world. It is used for self-defense, competition, fitness and self-discipline. Students can start from as early as pre-school to as old as any age.

This is only a brief overview of Taekwondo, to find out more you can visit the World Taekwondo Federation and the Ontario Taekwondo Association.
